Overview

The Al Yasmina  Academy curriculum is divided into 6 sections:

  • The Early Years Foundation Stage (FS1 and FS2)
  • Key Stage 1 (Years 1 and 2)
  • Key Stage 2 (Years 3, 4, 5 and 6).
  • Key Stage 3 (Years 7, 8 and 9)
  • Key Stage 4 (Years 10 and 11)
  • Key Stage 5 (Post - 16)

The curriculum is based upon the National Curriculum of England and Wales but is modified to reflect the society and culture of the United Arab Emirates.

At Al Yasmina School we believe that our curriculum should offer a diverse & challenging curriculum that enables learners to be the best they can be whilst ensuring the curriculum upholds the culture & values of the UAE. It must also provide a range of learning experiences that challenge, stimulate and promote independence of thinking and learning, along with preparing them to be leading citizens of the world.

Our school is an inclusive learning community with a culture and ethos of ‘support me, challenge me, coach me’ underpinned by the highest of standards and expectations in all that we do.

We follow the National Curriculum of England. We are very excited to be moving forward with the recently developed curriculum. This has given us the opportunity to push the students to achieve more and more. The new curriculum also focuses on providing students with opportunities to investigate and apply the skills they have learnt in more detail.

Students in Key Stages 1 and 2 learn in a project based environment whilst still being taught English, Math’s and Science lessons. So that you are up to date with what is being learnt in the projects, your child’s Head of Year will send out a Curriculum Map prior to each project beginning. This will allow for you to support you child with their learning at home.

At Key Stage 3, students are taught in individual subjects. Your child will be offered a broad range of subjects which will include: English, Maths, Science, Languages, Geography, History, ICT, Drama, Music, Art, PE and Design and Technology. Along with this, students have regular assemblies with their Heads of Year. More detailed information will be available at the Parent Information Evenings and the Curriculum Information Booklets.

During Year 9, students choose which subjects they would like to continue to study in Year 10. Our options process allows all students to access the EBac or English Baccalaureate and the Equivalency Certificate. Students work with their Form tutor, Head of Year and Careers counselor to make choices that are most suitable for them. A GCSE Options booklet is available prior to the Options process.

Similarly, with careful support and guidance, Year 11 students opt for their subjects within Post 16. Most students choose 4 subjects within Year 12 with this reducing to 3 for Year 13 and their final year at Al Yasmina School. An Options Booklet is available prior to the options process.
