French in the Al Yasmina  Academy is taught by French Specialists. All children from Year 3 to Year 6 have one taster lesson per week, which lasts 45 minutes. The French primary curriculum at Al Yasmina is based on the National Curriculum of England and Wales. It focusses on four key skills: listening, reading, writing and speaking. There is more emphasis on writing in Year 6, but the main focus of lessons is to develop communicative skills through interactive activities such games and songs.

Year 3 and 4

Children are exposed to single words and short sentences which allow them to describe people and objects around them. Topics include family, pets, food, the body and giving personal information.

Year 5 and 6

Children are exposed to longer sentences which enable them to briefly describe the environment in which they live. Emphasis is put on giving personal opinions about things in order to attain level 3 and 4 of the curriculum. Topics include daily routine, rooms in the house, going on holiday, transport and sports.
