KS3 Curriculum for Year 7 to Year 12

header

Music at Key Stage 3 follows the National Curriculum of England. Students study a broad and varied course that encompasses different styles of music. The emphasis is on music as a practical subject and we focus on the development of four key skills: Performing, Composing, Listening and Appraising. Students learn about the Historical and Social context of the styles of music studied, as well as theoretical elements, stylistic features and Instruments specific to each type of music. Their work is recorded and assessed by the teacher at the end of each topic, and students are also given the opportunity to appraise the effectiveness of their own and other student's work.

KS4 Curriculum for Years 10, 11

GCSE Music is offered at KS4 using the Edexcel Examination Board. This two year course covers four areas of study and focuses on the development of Performing, Composing and Listening skills. Students study 3 pieces of music from each area of study. In Y10 they compose music inspired by the music studied and in Y11 focus on the development of two compositions which they hand as coursework. They sit a written paper based on the set works, at the end of the course, and also have to submit recordings of two performances, one solo and one ensemble, that can be recorded at anytime during Y10 and Y11.
