Welcome to HistoryKS3 Curriculum for Year 7 to Year 12
"How do you know who you are unless you know where you've come from? How can you tell what's going to happen, unless you know what's happened before? History isn't just about the past. It's about why we are who we are – and about what's next". At Al Yasmina School, The History Department strives to develop all students' knowledge and understanding of the past as well as the present. We place great emphasis on developing the skills of the historian, especially the critical analysis of sources and representations, judging the value of historical interpretations, and building up supported and balanced arguments. We seek to employ a range of techniques to engage students and bring the subject to life such as role-plays, mysteries and the use of film. We will cover a broad range of topics across the Key Stage such as the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade, The Making of the UK and Medieval Realms. KS3 National Curriculum Descriptors KS4 Curriculum for Years 10, 11As a department we follow the Edexcel GCSE entitled "History A, The Making of the Modern World" which is a vibrant, stimulating and challenging course. Students study a range of diverse topics such as the Cold War, The Civil Rights Movement and Victorian policing at the time of the crimes of Jack the Ripper. Students continue to critique, analyse and interpret the past and are encouraged to question and debate how past events and figures are seen as well as to voice their own opinions. The GCSE course is divided into four modules. Each module is assessed either though an external or internal examination. Students have the opportunity to complete two sections of their GCSE in Y10 and two in Y11 allowing students to 'bank' their achievements throughout the course. The department is also looking to plan an educational trip to Munich and Berlin to support the students in their studies. |
