KS3 Curriculum for Year 7 to Year 12

header

Students follow the National Curriculum of England at KS3. The learning emphasis is on the development of skills as well as knowledge of geographical patterns and processes. Lessons employ diverse learning styles and students are assessed in different ways such as through investigations, making documentaries, educational games as well as the more traditional written questions which prepare students for specialist GCSE study.

Fieldwork is undertaken each year by students. This year students have been to Oman to assess the impact of tourism, visited Sharjah Natural History Museum to learn about the geological history of the region and local fauna and flora. Students also visit Dubai to examine the location of industry. These trips aim to develop students skills for independent study in KS4 and are highly effective in enhancing motivation and subsequent achievement.

KS4 Curriculum for Years 10, 11

GCSE Geography follows the Edexcel Specification A course. This is a modular course which builds upon the knowledge and skills of KS3. Students must complete a controlled assessment which has replaced coursework in Y10 and there are two fieldwork days to support this. Students can then choose which fieldwork they submit for assessment. The other three modules are assessed throughout the two-year course by external examinations which last 1 hour each.GCSE Geography is an excellent choice for students because it offers both the diversity of humanities and the challenge and rigour of science. It enables students to develop a broad set of transferrable skills which offer a wide range of Post-16 progression opportunities.
