Welcome to FrenchKS3 Curriculum for Year 7 to Year 12
At Al Yasmina students begin taster lessons in French in Y3 and begin studying the National Curriculum of England content in French in Y7. Activities and assessment take place in the key skills of Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing and students also learn to understand and appreciate the cultural similarities and differences between their own culture and that of French-speaking communities. Lessons incorporate a wide variety of learning techniques, ranging from role-plays and board games to interactive ICT activities and songs in the target language, and students are encouraged to participate fully and apply new language spontaneously. In addition to the grammatical focus required for a foreign language, students cover such topics as professions, TV and cinema, holidays, invitations, French cuisine and festivals and regions of France. KS3 National Curriculum Descriptors KS4 Curriculum for Years 10, 11Students selecting to continue their foreign language and cultural experience in Y10 and Y11 study the International Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) in French. This 2 year linear course builds upon the strong grounding found at KS3 and allows students to develop their competency and confidence in further depth and in a wider variety of topics (healthy living, the environment, travelling and staying abroad, etc.). Students continue to improve upon their linguistic skills in Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing and receive additional exposure to daily life in French-speaking parts of the world. The IGSCE in French is a vital step for those students wishing to pursue a career in today's global economy and is often a pre-requisite for those considering further education in UK universities, as well as being an extremely useful qualification for those entering direct employment. |
