KS3 Curriculum for Year 7 to Year 12

header

All students at Al Yasmina study the National Curriculum of England. This is underpinned by Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening – key elements of communication. They study a combination of language and literature, including English grammar. Students study a wide range of texts from Anthony Horowitz to Roald Dahl to Shakespeare, enjoying a wealth of culture through poetry and plays. The English curriculum is enhanced through opportunities for participation in theatre visits and workshops, such as Shakepeare4kidz and to see the Birmingham Stage Company's production of Twelfth Night.

Study at key Stage 3 provides a firm grounding for that in Y10 and Y11.

KS4 Curriculum for Years 10, 11

All students study both International Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) in both English Literature and English Language. They study as first language speakers and are able to achieve 2 prestigious IGCSE qualifications. These provide a very good grounding for those wishing to study English at Post-16, through the General Certificate of Education at Advanced and/or Advanced Subsidiary levels (GCE 'A2' and 'AS'). As well as a rigorous and accurate approach to reading, writing and understanding functional English, students also study a wide range of literature from different periods and cultures in history, for example from Keats to Wilfred Owen and from Steinbeck to JB Priestley's 'An Inspector Calls'.
